Fantastic Four Missed Steps
Missed Step #1 No family drama.
One of the most interesting parts of the Fantastic Four is the Dynamic between Reed Richards and Ben Grimm. They are best friends but there is tension because Richards Turned Grimm into a rock monster. They did this so much better with Michael Chicklis and that other guy. Chiklis was upset about being a rock monster, but they were still friends. Because they had a mature friendship where they knew they could be friends and still have disagreements. Michael Chicklis playing The Thing, also helped because he was the best actor in that movie. Everyone needs to watch The Shield. Now that is something great. Man, I should really go rewatch The Shield again. It ages so well and Every time I watch it, I see it in a new light. Who would have thought that Claudette and Dutch were the real villains of the show? Still the best pilot episode and finale of any show. Remember Walton Goggins before he was in everything? Still his best role. Yeah, I am going to rewatch that show again.
Missed Step #2 The god-awful casting.
Pedro Pascal is a creepy weirdo who claims he must touch other people to calm himself down. No, that makes you a sexual predator. But this is a Hollywood movie, so everyone is this movie is a sexual predator. Including that weird alien woman who played The Invisible Woman. If only she was invisible during the whole movie. That would have made things better. All the other casting was forgettable. I can barely remember who played who. Johnny Storm looked just like a young Robert Downey Jr. No one else has brought this up. I only noticed it because I am so awesome. That chick from American Pie looked extremely out of place.
Missed Step #3 the rushed story.
The alien chick should not have gotten pregnant until a later movie. They should have introduced the main four and Doom in this movie. Mole Man should have been the first villain. That when they didn’t have to have so much monologue and who mole man is. This felt like a sequel to what could have been a decent movie. Galactus Should have been build up over several movies and been a Thanos level threat. Instead, they made him so weak they beat him with a game a keep away.
Missed Step #4 Doom
Why the fuck wasn’t Doom in this movie? The whole point of the fantastic Four is that Victor Von Doom was part of the group. He went to space with them and was transformed into Doom during the freaky space thing. He was Richards rival and friend. They could have done so much with this character. He should have been played by that tree mutant guy, what his name? Oh yeah, Adam Driver. In the comics Doom wore a mask because he thought he was horribly disfigured. Why not get an actor whose face looks like he was horribly disfigured? No, that makes too much sense so let’s dig up the body of Tony Stark and have him play Doom in Avengers: please God let this film be profitable.
That was this movie’s biggest sin. It could have led to another huge finale where everyone in the theater loses their shit but instead, we are getting a rushed story that will be missing so much context.
At least it wan’t Fant 4 stic. I was forgetting what happened in that movie as it happened.
One day I will write about the good Marvel movies but this is more therapeutic.
